I’m assuming all you London folks are coming? And if you are anywhere else, pack your bike and join us! It’s the best thing ever - some of the prettiest spots in London get closed off for the day on Sunday 21st of September 2008 to be taken over by people on two-wheels only: kids, parents, grandparents, fixers, roadies, BMXers - anyone who can ride a bike.
It’s a wonderful spectacle like anyone who went last year will be able to tell you - a real carnival feel, music, food and people riding in from all over town to be part of this. Last year it was something like 80 000 people on bikes and this year I reckon it will be even bigger. You can even spot people on rollerblades pulling trailers with ghettoblasters and dancing to the tunes in the midst of the cycling crowd, which makes riding all the more fun.
This year I’m leaving my roadbike at home and we are joining the party on 2 of our custom builds - the Viking Mile Eater and the Merlin. Still trying to persuade some of our friends to join and bring Jeeves too. So here’s my challenge to you - come to the freewheel on a bike you built yourself and take some pictures to prove it! I’ll post them here so get in touch. See you there on Sunday the 21st of September 2008.
